The Story of Buddy

Many of you already know the story of Buddy, but I will share it for those who have yet to meet him.

I adopted Buddy in December of 2005 from a rescue in Bloomington, IL.  I realize that Buddy is kind of a cliche name, but I didn't have the heart to change it.  When Buddy was a pup, he experienced an unknown accident that resulted in a broken front leg.  The original owners opted to let him suffer instead of seeking medical treatment.  As a result, the tendons and growth plates have developed in such a way that it is nearly impossible to re-break the leg and set it properly.  The only possible option is to spend $10,000 on experimental surgery at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine which may or may not improve his condition.  On the upside, he is very mobile.  This includes walking, running, jumping, playing and being silly in general.  The advice given to me:  If it doesn't bother him now, let it be.  If he experiences arthritic pain later on, deal with it at that time.  So far, Buddy doesn't indicate any pain whatsoever.  He is about 4 years old.

Here are some of my favorite Buddy moments:

cheers

Buddy is a full blooded sheltie. I adopted him because nobody else would. I'm not partial to purchasing dogs since there are so many that need to be adopted.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Kevin.
